We are changing lives high in the Andes

by SAMIA on May 12, 2020

Our compromise with changing lives took our team to the beautiful Andes of Ecuador in South America. This small but gorgeous country happens to be located right in the middle of the world. That’s why the country gets its name from the fact that it straddles the Equatorial line and is the Spanish translation of Equator.

Why Ecuador?

Ecuador has four central regions, each with its own magic and beauty: the Pacific Coastal Area, the Andean Highlands, the Amazon rainforest, and the Galapagos Islands. It’s home to a very diverse population divided into many cultures and ethnicities. Sadly 21.5% of its people live in poverty (UN, 2017), and even when some progress has been made, the indigenous cultures are the most affected group.

These communities are generally located high in the mountains and have little to none access to education, health care, proper nutrition, and economic opportunities. The poverty rate perseveres generation after generation and has affected approximately 70% of Ecuadorian kids living in underprivileged conditions. Kids born into poverty usually don’t have the abilities, resources, or understanding needed to break the cycle.

That’s where we come in! I Love Giving Back is working to help these kids and families break the cycle of poverty.

Our adventure

As part of a more significant effort to improve children’s health and nutrition, we flew to this beautiful country. We got to know these affected communities and brought them some resources to help them reach their fullest potential.

Our journey started by reaching these hidden towns in the mountains. If you didn’t know, Ecuador is located 2,850m above the sea. It won’t come as a surprise that we were running out of breath. The freezing weather also caught us unprepared, but it didn’t stop us from bringing food and many other donations of clothes, pencil cases, and other educational materials

All the kids were waiting for us in the little improvised school they have in the community. After receiving a nice warm meal, their smiles filled our hearts with joy and brought tears to our eyes. We played games, sang songs, and shared many compelling stories. We met with the authorities in place to talk about different initiatives we can implement to support the kids, their community, and to encourage them to pursue higher education.

How can you help?

I Love Giving Back believes that we are stronger together. We are doing all we can, but we still need your support. You can help us change lives for underdeveloped communities in America and the world. With every purchase you make on our website, you become part of these fantastic stories and help children become the innovators and inventors of tomorrow!

If you would like to support our mission, even more, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are always open and looking for new ideas to create a better world for us and future generations.
